The reconstruction project for Sajik Baseball Stadium has passed the Central Investment Review by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, officially launching the project into full-scale development.
Under the Local Finance Act, new municipal projects exceeding 50 billion won must undergo feasibility evaluations and investment reviews. With this approval, the Sajik Baseball Stadium project, long envisioned by Busan citizens—is recognized as both feasible and necessary.
Originally opened in 1985, Sajik Stadium has been in use for nearly 40 years, with aging facilities and safety concerns prompting calls for a major overhaul. The new stadium will go beyond basic upgrades, integrating cutting-edge technology and eco-friendly features to become a “smart, future-ready diamond.”
Key milestones for the project include:
-
Design phase in 2026
-
Groundbreaking in 2028
-
Completion and opening by 2031
During construction, the Busan Asiad Main Stadium will be remodeled and used as a temporary home to ensure continued access for baseball fans.
The new Sajik Stadium will incorporate high-tech features such as real-time game analytics, mobile app-based seating and safety guidance, and AR photo zones with players.
The exterior will feature smart lighting powered by eco-energy, media displays with player info and game highlights, and nighttime light shows, offering attractions even on non-game days.
To ensure efficiency, Busan has established a dedicated task force and advisory board including representatives from the city, KBO, Lotte Giants, and experts in architecture and sports facilities.
The city also plans to pursue national funding through projects hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to ease the financial burden and boost project stability.
