The 16th Busan Mayor’s Cup International Surfing Competition will take place at Songjeong Beach from June 28 to 29.
Hosted by the City of Busan and organized by the Korea Surfing Association and Busan Surfing Association, the event is expected to draw around 350 participants, including professional surfers, fans, and international athletes.
Known as one of Korea’s top year-round surfing destinations, Songjeong Beach offers natural conditions ideal for surfing and marine sports. The competition aims to promote surfing culture and highlight Busan’s reputation as a global marine leisure tourism city.
The two-day event will feature competitions across 19 categories in 10 divisions, including shortboard, longboard, stand-up paddleboard (SUP), and team-based paddling relay races. Participants will be judged on wave selection, difficulty and execution of techniques, speed, and creativity. Winners will receive trophies and prize money.
In addition to the main competition, a variety of programs will take place on the beach. These include surf skateboarding, yoga, Pilates, face painting, and DIY crafts such as keychains and silkscreen bags.
A special meditation session using singing bowls will also be offered in collaboration with the Busan Meditation Association, providing a relaxing experience for both visitors and participants.
Following the closing ceremony, a beach cleanup activity (Beachcombing) will be held with participants and volunteers to promote marine environmental awareness
