One Earth Film Festival to Open With Inspiring Jane Goodall Documentary on August 21

Korea’s only film festival dedicated to the climate crisis, the 4th One Earth Film Festival, has announced “Jane Goodall: Reasons for Hope” as its official opening film.

The event kicks off on August 21 at the Busan Cinema Center, where the 45-minute documentary will make its Korean premiere.

Directed by Canadian scientist David Lickley, the film follows the life and legacy of Jane Goodall, world-renowned primatologist and environmental advocate. From her early work with chimpanzees in Africa to her continued mission to protect nature and inspire youth, the film offers a message of resilience and hope in the face of the climate and biodiversity crises.

Festival organizers highlighted the film’s meaningful production, noting that it reflects Goodall’s philosophy by minimizing its carbon footprint—using electric vehicles, local crews, and recycled materials. One particularly moving scene shows a young climate activist leading a flock of endangered birds across the Alps.

The festival will run for five days, screening 49 films from 20 countries, including 13 Korean debuts, 3 world premieres, and 7 international premieres.
