Director Park Chan-wook returns to the screen after a three-year hiatus with No Other Choice, which has been selected as the opening film for the 30th Busan International Film Festival.
The film stars Lee Byung-hun as Man-su, a man whose once-stable life unravels following a sudden job loss, forcing him into a desperate struggle to protect his wife Miri, played by Son Ye-jin, their two children, and their home.
Marking their first on-screen appearance as a couple, Lee and Son lead a cast that includes Park Hee-soon, Lee Sung-min, Yeom Hye-ran, and Cha Seung-won.
The film weaves Park’s trademark visual style and sharp storytelling into a tense portrait of personal and societal collapse.
First introduced by the director as a long-cherished project at BIFF 2019, No Other Choice is described as a timely reflection on survival, family, and dignity.
Festival Director Jung Han-seok praised the selection, stating, “I’m deeply moved to witness the premiere of Park Chan-wook’s long-awaited film with BIFF audiences. I hope this screening reignites global attention toward Korean cinema.”
The festival runs from September 17 to 26.
