KCC Appoints Legendary Guard Lee Sang-min as New Head Coach

Busan KCC has named Lee Sang-min as its 6th head coach, marking a full-circle moment for the former franchise legend.

Lee, who defined an era of Korean basketball as a “computer guard,” will lead the team on a three-year contract through May 2028, assisted by coaches Lee Gyu-seop and Shin Myeong-ho.

Lee’s playing career with KCC is one of the most storied in Korean basketball. Joining Hyundai Electronics (KCC’s predecessor) in 1995, he led the team to three consecutive regular-season titles and back-to-back championships in the late ’90s. He also won league MVP twice and has his No. 11 jersey retired by the club.

As a coach, Lee previously led Seoul Samsung from 2014 to 2022, reaching the championship round in the 2016–2017 season. However, mixed results and eventual struggles led to his resignation. Returning to KCC as an assistant in 2023, he now steps into the top role with renewed focus.

Lee enters with a clear agenda: build a healthy squad and run a fast-paced, aggressive offense that reflects his signature style. Injuries plagued KCC’s MVP core last season, dropping the team to 9th place. Lee’s primary goal is to keep Heo Woong, Choi Jun-yong, Song Kyo-chang, and Lee Seung-hyun healthy and on the court.
