OK Savings Bank and Busan City announced that the men’s professional volleyball team is moving its home ground from Ansan, Gyeonggi Province to Busan.
If approved, this will mark the city’s first professional volleyball team, complementing its existing teams in baseball, soccer, and basketball.
The Korea Volleyball Federation (KOVO) is expected to review the relocation proposal during a board meeting on the 24th. The team aims to complete the move before the start of the new season later this year.
A Busan city official stated that the agreement with the volleyball team has been finalized and no major issues are expected. An OK Savings Bank representative emphasized the significance of the move for market expansion, expressing hope for KOVO’s approval.
The relocation has been positively received within the volleyball community.
Currently, most V-League teams are concentrated in the metropolitan and Chungcheong regions. The move would align with efforts to improve regional balance. The only other professional volleyball team based in the Yeongnam region is the women’s team, Korea Expressway Corporation in Gimcheon.
The team plans to use Busan’s Gangseo Gymnasium, which was recently renovated for the upcoming National Sports Festival. Additional upgrades for professional use, such as expanded locker rooms and shower facilities, are underway.
While the team will continue to use its current clubhouse in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, it plans to stay in hotels for Busan home games. The possibility of establishing a new clubhouse in Busan is under review.
