Busan has been officially selected as the host city for the 2026 World Library and Information Congress (WLIC), the world’s largest gathering of library and information professionals.
Organized by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), the event will take place from August 10 to 13, 2026 at BEXCO and local libraries throughout the city.
This marks Korea’s first time hosting the WLIC since Seoul in 2006. Busan’s strong MICE infrastructure, cultural programs, and commitment to library innovation played a key role in securing the bid over 12 other countries.
The congress will bring together over 5,000 experts from 150 countries to discuss the future of libraries in the age of digital transformation, AI, open access, and inclusive information policies.
