Two foreign nationals are under investigation for allegedly harassing women at Haeundae Beach in Busan.
The Busan Coast Guard announced on the 31st that a Russian man in his 20s has been arrested on charges of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes.
A second suspect, a man from Uzbekistan also in his 20s, is being investigated without detention on the same charge.
According to authorities, the Russian national is accused of harassing five women on the afternoon of July 27, while the Uzbek national allegedly made physical contact with three female beachgoers.
The two incidents occurred separately, and the suspects are not believed to have acted together. Neither suspect was intoxicated, and both tested negative for drugs.
The Coast Guard stated that the victims’ protection remains a priority and the case will be forwarded to prosecutors after further investigation.
Officials emphasized a strict response to sexual crimes at beaches this summer, regardless of the suspect’s nationality.
