Jinju City’s silk lanterns are gaining global recognition as a unique form of Korean cultural content, following the successful conclusion of the Light of Korea – Pearl Silk Lanterns exhibition in the Philippines.
Held from May 23 to July 31 at the Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines, the exhibition drew over 5,500 visitors and generated around 6,000 social media impressions.
The exhibition is part of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s Touring K-Arts project and includes stops in Indonesia and Vietnam.
Visitors in the Philippines were introduced to the traditional aesthetics of Jinju through silk lantern displays, a Namgang Yudeung Festival promotion booth, hanbok try-ons, and hands-on wish lantern-making.
Previously showcased in Brazil, the Jinju lanterns have been featured at major cultural sites, including a projection mapping on Rio’s Christ the Redeemer statue.
Building on this momentum, Jinju plans to expand to Europe and the Americas, including a potential showcase in France in 2026.
