Eat Like a Local: Delicious Treats at Happy Melt American Diner in Gwangalli

Nestled on the back streets of Suyeong-ro 510 beon-gil, Happy Melt American Diner offers up some nostalgic dishes not normally found around the city.

Opened up in late March, the small diner which seats about 20 takes you back to old Americana with its decor, with an ambience of old Coke and burger signs and right down to the Gingham red and white table cloths.

The small menu features a staple of classics, including a Patty Melt, Roast Beef Sandwich, Reuben Sandwich, Roast Beef Steak, Taco Rice and Buffalo Wings.

Prices are affordably ranged from 10,000 won to 16,000 won with most meals being accompanied with a small portion of macaroni salad and kettle chips.

On a recent visit, I enjoyed the Roast Beef Sandwich for 14,000 won which was quite tasty and hit the spot for a quick afternoon lunch.

Though the portions may tend to be more Asian-sized than American-sized, they were quite flavorful and were perfect for something more light on the stomach and wallet.

The young owner is also quite friendly and is very committed to his craft.

If you’re looking to try something different around Gwangalli this summer, it’s just up the road from Randy’s Donuts and well-worth a visit.
