The city of Busan has taken a significant step toward globalizing its fashion industry by signing its first official business agreement for fashion and cultural exchange with Indonesia’s leading fashion event, Jakarta Fashion Festival (JF3).
The tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), signed on July 26 in Jakarta, involves Busan City, the Busan Textile and Fashion Industry Association, and Sumarecon, the organizer of JF3.
The agreement outlines a strategic collaboration to promote sustainable fashion exchanges between Korea and Indonesia. Key areas of cooperation include mutual invitations for fashion designers, joint exhibitions, youth designer mentoring and workshop programs, and the provision of distribution and marketing platforms in both regions.
Notably, Sumarecon has committed to supporting Korean designer pop-up stores and brand showcases within its Indonesian commercial spaces, while Busan Fashion Week will facilitate Indonesian designer participation in the Korean market. This is expected to foster real business opportunities and elevate the visibility of designers from both countries.
The Jakarta Fashion Festival (JF3), held this year from July 24 to 27, is one of Southeast Asia’s most prominent fashion events, hosting fashion shows, exhibitions, awards, and startup programs.
With the new agreement, Busan aims to position Busan Fashion Week as a gateway into the ASEAN fashion market, while also building a strong cooperative network with Jakarta as a Southeast Asian fashion hub.
