The Eulsukdo Opera Festival is set to captivate audiences every Saturday at 4:00 pm throughout July at the Eulsukdo Cultural Center Grand Theater.
Now in its 11th year, the festival will present four operatic productions, showcasing a mix of comic, romantic, and dramatic works performed by acclaimed local ensembles and artists.
On July 12, Verdi’s Rigoletto will be presented by Opera Hanul. This tragic tale of a court jester and his daughter’s doomed fate will feature tenor Yang Seung-yeop, soprano Lee Yu-bin, and baritone Yoo Yong-jun under the direction of Choi Dae-woo and conductor Chae Beom-seok.
The third performance on July 19 is The Pirates of Penzance, the light-hearted and witty English operetta by Gilbert and Sullivan. It will be staged by Artnaesangs, a group known for blending classic and contemporary works, led by bass-baritone Park Soon-ki.
Closing the festival on July 26 is The Queen of the Faeries, a Baroque opera by Henry Purcell based on Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The production will be performed by Le Voyage Vocale Ensemble, known for their period-accurate performances of choral and vocal music spanning from the Baroque to the present.
