Taejondae’s Shellfish Village Gets a New Home

Shellfish Village, a number of dining tents which occupied the Gamji rock beach on Taejongdae, will reopen but in a new location, restoring the beach to its natural habitat.

For nearly 40 years, the small 270mX40m beach has been occupied by 34 shellfish stands which mostly specialized in chogae gui, though all were wiped out after Typhoon Chaba last October.

Yeongdo council decided to move the vendors to Suyeon parking lot, with each vendor given 29 square meters of space.

The new restaurants will also finally install a credit card paying system, long a complaint of customers who have only been allowed to pay in cash.

The district office will also implement sanitation standard checks and a price fixing system.
