Critical Mass Busan: Riding Roads in Safety and Style

Explore the city like you’ve never seen it before:
rocking the roads on your bike with Busan’s newest established cycling club.

Critical Mass Busan is Busan’s newest monthly outdoor activity group. Established by Ms. “Sunny” Yoon of Yeongdo, this Sunday, 16th of August, at 2pm sees the sixth monthly ride around town. The journey extends in three stages: from Pusan National University to Haeundae Beach, via Seomyeon, and Pukyong National University.

The group is open to all over the age of 12 (in western years). Alongside fun and that familiar feeling of cyclist freedom, the group has a number of goals.

Sunny says, “By sharing the fun of riding the roads together the third Sunday of each month, my first hope is that the group connects and unites local cyclists from every part of Busan to work together to request the city government build bike lanes along all main thoroughfares that lead to work and home.”

Sunny ads that the group also aims to provide a safe experience cycling on the roads by travelling at a steady, achievable pace: the saying “safety in numbers” applies greatly to riders on roads shared with motorized users. Already, the monthly rides have had great success with two previously inexperienced female cyclists. One is a local Korean, and the other is an expat from the USA; both are now so confident and capable they commute on Busan city roads on a daily basis on their own.

All cyclists who participate in the journey are welcome to join in a social meal or drinks following each ride.
