Starting as early as next month, Kyochon Chicken will no longer be available on Coupang Eats, as the franchise moves to operate exclusively on select delivery platforms, including Baemin (Baedal Minjok) and Yogiyo.
According to the delivery and franchise industries on the 25th, Kyochon F&B, the operator of Kyochon Chicken, has entered into a “Baemin Only” agreement with Woowa Brothers, the company behind Baemin.
Under this partnership, Kyochon will withdraw from Coupang Eats and limit its delivery services to Baemin, Yogiyo, the public delivery app “Ttaenggyeoyo,” and its own app. In return, Woowa Brothers will lower the commission fees that Kyochon franchisees pay, although the specific rates have not been disclosed.
Additionally, Baemin plans to support promotional discounts at its own expense, helping increase franchisee revenue while reducing consumer costs.
The exclusive partnership is set to begin in August and last for 2 to 3 years. During franchisee briefings, Kyochon explained the move as a way to ease the burden of platform fees on store owners without passing costs onto customers.
This marks the first case of a major franchise officially exiting a competitor’s platform due to preferential terms. While other brands like Blue Bottle and Starbucks initially launched on Baemin before expanding to Coupang Eats, none have withdrawn from a platform due to exclusive arrangements—until now.
Industry analysts view this as a strategic move by Woowa Brothers to strengthen its position in the delivery app market against Coupang Eats, suggesting that competition over securing major franchise brands could intensify in the near future.
