The city of Busan and the Busan Cultural Foundation will launch the 2025 Busan Sea Library (Bibliotheca Busan) today, offering citizens a unique outdoor reading experience that continues into the second half of the year.
This year’s festival is themed “outdoor library,” aiming to blend Busan’s coastal landscapes with literature and humanities programs.
The term “Sea Library” does not refer to a physical library on the beach but rather to a cultural project connecting books and reading with seaside settings.
The event will be held in two phases: the first from June 14 to 29 at Minrak Waterside Park in Suyeong-gu, and the second in the latter half of the year at Dadaepo Beach in Saha-gu. A smaller pop-up event is also scheduled at Haeundae Beach in August.
Opening ceremonies for the first session will be held on June 14 at 2:30 p.m. at Minrak Waterside Park.
Programs will run every weekend and include a “Digilog Lounge,” offering on-site tablet-based reading and digital access; a book tent inside the military-themed “tent café” set up by Suyeong-gu; and curated collections centered on themes like dawn, light, and waves.
Additional features include pet-friendly reading zones (“Mungdogmungle”), local bookstore pop-ups (“B-Book Spot”), and author-led lectures.
The project is the first large-scale seaside book experience jointly organized by the city and the Cultural Foundation.
