Busan composer Ahn Hu-yoon, a rising musical talent selected for Busan’s 2023 “Youth World-Class Development Program,” will return home to present a new original piece at the upcoming Breeze On Wind Orchestra concert on July 18.
The concert, titled The Organ Tide of Busan’s Wind, will be held at 7:30 pm at the Busan Concert Hall and will include the premiere of Ahn’s composition Mr. Romance.
The piece uses rich wind orchestration and piano elements to capture both the energy and calm of Busan, portraying the city as a dynamic character inspired by figures like James Bond.
Ahn, a graduate of middle and high schools in Busan, is currently studying film composition at Berklee College of Music in the United States.
Since being selected for the city’s youth support initiative, he has been involved in a range of international projects including music direction for a special exhibition at the Busan Museum, work at Warner Bros. in Hollywood, and orchestral recordings for global events.
The July concert will feature 50 musicians led by conductor Kim Seong-jun and include performances by local artists such as organist Choi Seo-young, clarinetists Park Joo-sun and Lim In-seo, and flutist Lee Ju-kyung.
Busan City launched the “Youth World-Class Development Program” in 2021 to identify and support young talents across fields such as art, science, and culture.
Selected individuals receive up to 110 million KRW over three years for training, mentoring, and participation in global events.
This year, the program saw a 70% increase in applicants compared to last year, with six finalists already selected following preliminary evaluations. Final selections for the next group of recipients will be made in August.
Ahn expressed gratitude for the support she received through the program and described the upcoming concert as a chance to share the results of her creative work with the community.
She added his hope that the program continues to offer opportunities for young people in Busan to grow and take on new challenges.
