Busan Gijang Studio Set to Become a Global Film Hub by 2026

The Korean Film Council has officially named the film studio currently under construction in Gijang-gun as ‘KOFIC Busan Gijang Studios’, with completion targeted for September 2026.

This decision follows the signing of a land purchase contract with Gijang-gun after extensive consultations.

Initially, the plan was to lease the land from Gijang-gun free of charge to build the studio. However, as laws prohibit the construction of permanent facilities on leased land, the Korean Film Council decided to purchase 42,862㎡ of land where the studio and its permanent facilities will be constructed. After negotiations, the sale was finalized, ensuring a stable foundation for the project.

Construction is underway with the goal of completing the studio by 2026. Alongside the construction, the council is developing plans to enhance operations in collaboration with the film industry, local residents, and local governments by 2025. These plans include the second phase of the project, which will add post-production facilities and virtual studios to the complex.

Located at Busan Gijang Ceramic Village, the studio complex spans 246,880㎡ and will include three studio buildings (with areas of 1,000 pyeong, 650 pyeong, and 450 pyeong), as well as production support and art facilities, creating a comprehensive filmmaking environment.
