The female teacher whose highly publicized case for sleeping with a 12-year-old boy has received a five year jail sentence and ordered to undergo 80 hours of treatment for sexual offenders.
Prosecutors had sought an eight year sentence in the case which came into light on August 29th when details of the married 32-year-old Gyeongnam teacher’s actions were made public, enraging parents across the country.
She was arrested for rape and molestation of a minor under 13 after admitting she had sex with the sixth grade boy nine times in the classroom and her car citing they “were in love” and it was consensual.
The court reduced her sentence considering her regret and admission of guilt, though admonished the woman saying that “she should understand what she did was rape”.
Many have questioned the age of consent laws in Korea, which according to Section 305 of the Criminal Law of the Republic of Korea, is 13.
