From the end of September, back-seat passengers without a seat belt will pay a fine not only on the highway but also on public roads.
The National Police Agency announced amendments to the Road Traffic Law including making “seatbelts mandatory for all passengers.”
From September 28th onwards, the driver and front passenger as well as the back seat passengers must wear safety belts on public roads.
Those who break this law will be charged a fine of 30,000 KRW. For infants or children ages 13 years or younger, the fines will increase to 60,000 won.
The police are planning to revise the Enforcement Regulations so that the driver of a bus or taxi would not be charged if a passenger does not wear a seat belt.
For buses without seat belts installed, passengers will not be required to wear a seat belt.
