With summer beach season approaching and traffic fatalities historically rising during this period, the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency has announced intensified enforcement measures from June 21 to August 31.
The initiative aligns with the opening of major beaches and aims to reduce seasonal traffic-related deaths and violations.
Over the past three years, Busan has recorded an average of 10 traffic fatalities each summer, higher than in other seasons.
Police attribute this to increased tourist traffic, unfamiliarity with local roads, and a general decline in driver attention during the summer months.
In response, the police will deploy undercover patrol vehicles, traffic sidecars, and the Psyca Safety Mobile Team across the city, particularly at major intersections, highways, and entry points into Busan.
Enforcement will focus on reckless driving, illegal vehicle modifications, and drunk driving.
A particular emphasis will be placed on cracking down on motorcycles that create excessive noise or engage in illegal tuning.
During a recent joint operation on June 18 in Gwangalli Beach’s Mannam Square and Haeundae’s Marine City, authorities identified 75 traffic violations in just two hours.
The police have stated that they will continue targeted enforcement throughout the summer to ensure public safety and reduce disruptions caused by traffic violations.
