Dozens Caught in Daytime Drunk Driving Crackdown in Gijang

A major police operation in Gijang-gun has uncovered widespread daytime drunk driving, with several offenders found to be over the legal blood alcohol limits even in broad daylight.

On June 22, Gijang Police Station conducted an afternoon crackdown, resulting in three drivers caught with blood alcohol levels high enough for license suspension.

The crackdown is part of a larger enforcement effort that ran from April 1 to June 23, focusing on areas including Yeonhwa-ri and the Osiria Tourist Complex.

The targeted enforcement, held from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, involved 300 officers and 50 police vehicles, with support from the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency.

In total, 59 drunk drivers were caught.

Among them, 4 had blood alcohol levels of 0.08% or higher, triggering license revocation, while 55 tested between 0.03% and 0.08%, leading to license suspensions.

Police say they will continue strict checks to address the growing concern of drunk driving during the day.
