The city of Busan held a groundbreaking ceremony on June 30 at 11:00 am in Eomgung, Sasang-gu, officially launching the full-scale construction of the Eomgungdaegyo Bridge.
The Eomgungdaegyo project aims to build a 2.91-kilometer, 6–8 lane road connecting Daejeo-dong in Gangseo-gu (Eco Delta City) to Eomgung-dong in Sasang-gu (near Seunghak Tunnel).
It includes the construction of the Eomgungdaegyo bridge across the Nakdong River and associated infrastructure such as two additional bridges and intersection improvements.
The total project cost is approximately 344.4 billion won, with completion expected by 2030.
The city has pursued this project since 2014 to relieve congestion on existing Nakdong River bridges and improve transport connections in western Busan.
However, it faced delays due to environmental concerns, especially regarding migratory bird habitats.
After revising its environmental impact assessment and securing the necessary national approvals, Busan finalized all required procedures in June 2025.
