Plans to build a large observatory and cable car on Hwangnyeongsan Mountain in Busan have officially been approved.
This marks progress after more than 20 years of delays. The project includes a 125-meter-tall observatory inspired by a historic beacon tower and a 539-meter cable car linking the summit to a nearby sports park.
Construction could begin as early as the beginning of next year.
The observatory will feature a panoramic viewing deck, media art spaces, and a cultural exhibition hall. It is expected to take around 4 years to complete, while the cable car will take about 2 years.
Preparations are underway, including permits and solutions for broadcast signal interference.
In addition, a second cable car phase is also under review, aiming to connect the observatory to Snow Castle in Nam-gu District. The projected job creation is over 46,000 positions.
