Yangsan City has completed the Hyeolsucheon Ecological Stream Restoration Project, a national initiative supported by the Ministry of Environment that began in 2019.
The project targeted Hyeolsucheon, a local stream flowing through Soju-dong, and aimed to improve both the ecological health of the waterway and its value as a community space.
The restoration effort first took shape in 2017 with the launch of Yangsan’s Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration Plan.
With a total budget of 6.9 billion won, the city carried out comprehensive improvements along a 1.4-kilometer section of the stream.
These included the creation of ecological trails, the restoration of stream sections, the development of riverside forest areas, and the construction of an ecological learning center. Additional enhancements were made to the riverbanks and surrounding embankments to improve accessibility and environmental sustainability.
As part of the project’s focus on natural preservation, native vegetation was planted throughout the area, including dozens of pine, ginkgo, and zelkova trees.
A wide variety of wildflowers were also introduced to support biodiversity and enhance the scenery. These efforts not only improve water quality and aquatic habitats but also create a green corridor where people and nature coexist.
The new ecological trail now invites residents to walk through a landscape where the forest and river blend seamlessly, offering a peaceful space for relaxation and everyday recreation.
