Yeonje-gu, the local government overseeing singer Psy’s “Sudden Show” concert, is on high alert as tens of thousands are expected to attend, prompting an emergency declaration for safety and traffic management.
Singer Psy is set to perform at the Busan Asiad Main Stadium on August 10 and 11, with an estimated 22,000 attendees per day.
In preparation, Yeonje-gu held a safety meeting with the concert organizer on July 31, requesting cooperation from the police and fire departments and urging the organizer to coordinate with transportation-related organizations. An inspection of the concert venue is planned for the morning of August 9.
Yeonje-gu’s concerns extend beyond crowd management. Psy’s concerts have recently faced various controversies, including an incident in Gyeonggi-do where lights fell during a performance and complaints about nighttime lighting rehearsals disturbing residents.
In Busan, the grass at the Asiad Main Stadium was damaged after Psy’s 2018 concert, and there have been regular complaints from nearby residents.
However, noise issues are not expected to be as significant this year, as the concert will be held at the main stadium with a ceiling, reducing noise.
Additionally, the lighting rehearsal will take place at 3 p.m. the day before the performance, minimizing disturbance.
