    Pokemon Go Fever Sweeping Busan


    Since its launch a week ago, Pokemon Go fever was evident in the city around many of the Busan’s landmark parks during the Lunar New Year’s holidays.

    Tourists and residents by the thousands headed to the main parks in the city, including UN Memorial Park, Yongdusan Park and Busan Citizen’s Park as well as the city’s beaches over the holiday weekend where rumors of special Pokemon Go characters spread on social media.

    Centum City and the cafe district in Jeonpo-dong were also popular spots.

    At a cafe in Jeonpo, gamers waited in lines for 20 minutes to enter a cafe which had three characters which were able to be caught in what became to be known as “Poseokwon” around the area.

    Many families were out over the holiday weekend to enjoy the sunny weather and spending time with their kids outdoors, a rare treat for busy parents and students who usually spend most of their time indoors.

    The game has had nearly seven million downloads since being launched last week.

    For all its fun, parks around the city have had the strengthen its security as some gamers have tried to break into the parks after hours to play.
