~는 중이다 [ ~neun jung-ida ]
When Koreans want to say ‘to be in the middle of ~’ or ‘ to be Ving’, they use ‘~는 중이다’. This expression is used with the root of (usually) action verbs.
You can use 중입니다 instead of 중이다 to be polite to the listener(s), and 시는 [ sineun ] instead of 는 to be polite to the subject.
ex)
영미는 공부하는 중입니다. (Yeongmi is studying.)
저 지금 밥 먹는 중입니다. (I am in the middle of eating now.)
탐은 생각하는 중이다. (Tom is thinking.)
선생님은 택시를 기다리시는 중이야. (The teacher is waiting for a taxi.)
