속셈 [ soksseam ]

The basic meaning of 셈 is ‘counting’ or ‘reckoning’, and 속 is ‘inside’. 속셈, a noun, means ‘ulterior motive‘ or ‘real intention‘.

ex)

너의 속셈이 뭐니?  (What is your real intention?)

그의 속셈을 모르겠어.  (I don’t know what he really thinks.)
