Korea’s First Baseball Hall of Fame Set to Open in Gijang by 2026

The long-awaited Korea Baseball Hall of Fame is finally becoming a reality.

Construction will begin in the first half of this year in Gijang-gun, with a temporary opening scheduled for early 2026 and a grand opening by the end of the year.

This marks the culmination of a project initiated in 2013 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Korean baseball, making it the first national baseball-specialized museum in the country.

The museum will be part of the larger Gijang Baseball Theme Park, a sports and cultural complex.

Situated on a 1,852㎡ site, the museum will feature three floors above ground and one basement level with a total floor area of 2,998㎡.

Highlights include a permanent exhibition hall, a Hall of Fame, and a vastly expanded storage facility to preserve over 50,000 baseball artifacts collected by the KBO. The project has an estimated budget of 19 billion won, jointly funded by the city and county.

In addition to the museum, the baseball theme park will include multiple baseball fields, a baseball experience center, and an indoor practice field, set to open in October 2025.

A youth hostel and additional facilities will follow by 2027.
