The city of Busan has announced its support for 22 domestic sports competitions in 2025, aiming to promote inclusivity in sports and enhance physical activity opportunities for both disabled and non-disabled individuals.
The initiative focuses on boosting sports participation, expanding accessibility, and improving the overall quality of life for Busan residents.
The supported events include the 3rd Busan Mayor’s Cup National Disabled Park Golf Tournament, the Busan Super Cup National Dodgeball Competition, and the 19th Busan Mayor’s Cup Ice Skating Competition. These competitions aim to encourage sports for people with disabilities, nurture less popular sports, and strengthen winter sports infrastructure in the region.
A key focus is increasing participation in sports events for people with disabilities. Busan will expand support for such competitions, providing more opportunities for people with disabilities to engage in physical activities and improve accessibility to sports facilities. Among the newly supported events is the Busan Metropolitan City Disabled People’s Schulen Tournament, a sport designed to be easily accessible for both elderly and disabled participants.
Busan selected the 22 supported competitions through a public contest last December, prioritizing sports for disabled individuals, underrepresented sports, and winter sports development.
By diversifying recreational sports options, Busan aims to establish itself as a leading sports city, promoting both competitive and everyday sports.
Moving forward, the city will actively incorporate public feedback to ensure sustainable sports programs while expanding sports infrastructure and introducing more inclusive events for all citizens.
