Gimhae Sports Complex has been nominated for Stadium of the Year 2024, one of the largest public votes of its kind.
The competition includes 23 stadiums from different parts of the world, spanning four continents: Asia, Europe, Africa, and South America. The winner will be determined by an online public vote.
Gimhae Sports Complex is a modern multi-purpose venue that has received a Class 1 certificate from World Athletics. The stadium’s roof and cauldron are designed to reflect the motif of two fish, which is found on the gate of King Suro’s tomb in Gimhae. An adjacent building next to the west stand is set to house the city’s art museum, named after Kim Young Won.
This year, Gimhae Sports Complex is the only stadium from Korea in the competition. It faces strong competition from internationally recognized venues, including Madrid’s Estadio Santiago Bernabéu.
The voting process allows each participant to rank five stadiums, awarding five stars to their top choice, four stars to the second, and so on. Each voter must select five venues in total. Voting is open to the public until March 2, with one vote allowed per device. The competition, which began in 2011, has counted over 400,000 votes since its inception, making it one of the most significant public stadium awards worldwide.
