Gijang-gun has revealed its 63.7 billion won plan for a comprehensive sports complex and youth hostel in Ilgwang Resort, marking a major step forward in the county’s infrastructure development.
The project, set for completion in 2028, will feature a 10,000-seat stadium, a 310-capacity youth hostel, a multi-story parking facility, and an outdoor swimming pool.
The sports complex, which will stand four stories high with one basement level, will include a full-sized soccer field and a 400-meter track and field course.
The design won praise for its 17-gate layout, ensuring smooth movement for spectators, and for its integration with other Ilgwang Amusement Park facilities.
Additionally, a three-story parking structure with 358 spaces was added to improve accessibility. Once completed, the complex will serve as a venue for sports competitions, training camps, and various events.
The youth hostel, also designed as a four-story structure with one basement level, will feature 90 rooms, accommodating approximately 310 guests.
The winning design received high marks for its central hall-focused layout and camping-friendly environment.
Initially, the plan included pension-style accommodations and pool villas, but due to legal constraints under the Youth Activities Promotion Act, these elements were excluded.
Instead, the county has opted to enhance outdoor facilities, including a campground, an outdoor swimming pool, and a sports activity plaza.
The project is entirely funded by county resources, with 39.4 billion won allocated to the sports complex and 24.3 billion won for the youth hostel.
Once completed, both facilities will be operated as public amenities.
The county plans to begin construction immediately following the completion of a detailed design phase based on the winning designs.
