The city of Busan is launching a new initiative to create screen park golf courses within local social welfare facilities, marking the first time the city has pursued this type of welfare-leisure hybrid project.
Aimed at enhancing the quality of life for facility users while promoting stronger ties with surrounding communities, the pilot project will begin with three selected locations.
Following a competitive selection process, Busan has chosen the Molundae Integrated Social Welfare Center, the Haeundae Community Welfare Center, and the Nam-gu Welfare Center for the Disabled as the first beneficiaries of the program.
These facilities will each install screen park golf equipment in underutilized spaces and operate programs tailored to the needs of their respective users and local residents.
The city’s plan emphasizes both accessibility and inclusivity, allowing people of different ages and physical abilities to enjoy a new form of indoor leisure activity. The screen park golf setups are intended not just for recreation, but also for physical wellness and social engagement.
Each facility will develop its own programs around the new installations. At Molundae Integrated Social Welfare Center, the focus will be on community building through clubs and educational workshops.
Haeundae’s center plans to link the golf activities with health and rehabilitation services, while Nam-gu’s Welfare Center for the Disabled will offer a version of the program specifically adapted for people with disabilities.
Busan officials say the initiative is designed to help bridge cultural and social gaps, encourage intergenerational exchange, and activate underused spaces in a meaningful way. As the program evolves, the city plans to expand it to more welfare facilities, gradually building a wider network of accessible leisure environments for vulnerable and underserved populations.
