Busan will hold the 1st Nakdong River Slow Ironman 3Bell Festa on May 4 at Hwamyeong Ecological Park, offering a new take on triathlon-style events designed for participants of all skill levels, including beginners and families.
Unlike traditional triathlons, the “Slow Ironman 3Bell” emphasizes enjoyment over competition. The event encourages participants to complete the race at their own pace, focusing on the experience of nature and wellness along Busan’s scenic Nakdong River.
The event includes six categories: Standard, Sprint, Mini, Aquathlon, Duathlon, and Family Relay, drawing an expected crowd of around 1,000 participants from across the country. Notably, Heo Min-ho, Korea’s first Olympic triathlete and an Ironman icon, will join the festivities, adding excitement for fans.
The Standard course consists of a 1.5 km swim near the Nakdong River 119 Rescue Center, a 46 km bike ride to Wondongjinsa in Yangsan and back, and a 10 km run through Hwamyeong Ecological Park.
To celebrate the event, a short-form video contest will be held, encouraging participants to capture and share their experiences. Winners will receive cash prizes, and selected entries will be featured on various social media platforms.
Busan’s city mascot Boogi will also appear to cheer on participants and host a selfie event.
While no road closures are required due to the use of existing park bike and walking trails, around 200 safety personnel, including medical staff and water rescue teams, will be stationed throughout the course to ensure participant safety.
