The red-hot popularity of professional baseball this season, already surpassing 3 million spectators, has energized the retail industry, with cheering-themed products flying off the shelves.
Convenience store 7-Eleven announced that all 40,000 units of its ‘Ma! Cheer’ product line, created in collaboration with the Lotte Giants, sold out during the holiday period from May 2 to 5 at Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan. The products are themed around the team’s popular chant, “Ma!”
On May 2, 7-Eleven and Lotte Welfood launched items like ‘Ma! Giant Red Bean Bread’ and ‘Giant Pikachu Nyan Nya’ with collectible stickers, followed by beer and snack products such as ‘Ma! Beer’ and ‘Giant Hexagonal Corn’ in select Busan and Gyeongnam stores. ‘Lotte Bread’, a nickname for the red bean bread among fans, has gained traction online, spurred by the team’s strong performance, currently ranked third in the KBO League.
On May 7, 7-Eleven released ‘Ma! Seed Hotteok Bread’, inspired by Busan’s signature street food, and next week, the ‘Giant’s World Cone’.
SPC Samlip’s baseball-themed ‘Kbobbang’ line, launched with the KBO, has sold over 10 million units in just 41 days.
Six new ‘Everyone’s Kbobbang’ products also rolled out with collectible ribbons featuring KBO and national team player designs.
