The city of Busan has achieved the highest consumer life satisfaction score in South Korea, according to the 2023 Korea Consumer Life Index released by the Korea Consumer Agency.
Busan scored 73.2 points, exceeding the national average of 68.1 by 5.1 points. This marks a 5.4-point increase from Busan’s score of 67.8 in 2021.
The survey revealed high satisfaction levels across all sectors, with hygiene and beauty (77.1 points), housing and household goods (76.9 points), and medical care (76.4 points) leading the way.
For Busan citizens, the most valued aspects of consumer life were quality (89.9%), reasonable pricing (67.9%), and safety (60.5%). Additionally, 68.9% of respondents reported using mobile shopping, although experiences with issues varied across districts.
Sustainability emerged as a focus for Busan’s consumers, with a score of 59.2 points, surpassing the national average of 57.1. The youth (58.1) and elderly (58.3) groups showed a need for further activation of eco-friendly consumption practices.
On December 2, Busan will host the 29th Consumer’s Day event at City Hall, featuring a special lecture on enhancing sustainable consumer life.
Awards will also be presented to individuals and organizations advancing consumer rights.
