As temperatures in Busan plummet, residents and visitors are seeking indoor spaces to stay warm and entertained.
From shopping malls and department stores to indoor theme parks, a variety of indoor venues are witnessing a surge in visitors eager to escape the cold.
Department stores are a popular choice for those looking to combine shopping, dining, and leisure.
Lotte Department Store’s Busan Main Branch reported a 10% increase in sales from January 9 to 12 compared to last year, with winter clothing and fresh food for home cooking driving significant growth.
Similarly, Shinsegae Department Store Centum City saw a 30% increase in sales, with many flocking to Spa Land to warm up, where sales jumped 48% during the same period.
Large marts like E-Mart Munhyeon Branch have also seen increased foot traffic, with customer numbers rising 29% since the start of the year.
Many visitors also frequented buffet restaurants and other in-mart dining options, reflecting a trend of spending leisure time indoors.
Indoor theme parks and attractions are another go-to option for families.
Sea Life Busan Aquarium experienced a 7% increase in visitors, thanks in part to its new “Secret of Coral Reefs” exhibit, which offers a tropical escape with warm underwater scenes and lush greenery.
KidZania Busan, a children’s job-experience theme park, also reported over 1,200 daily visitors on average during the cold snap.
As temperatures continue to drop, Busan’s indoor venues are proving to be popular destinations for residents and families looking to stay warm while enjoying a variety of activities.
