With this year’s Lunar New Year holiday lasting nine days, several major suburban outlets will remain open to accommodate shoppers.
Lotte will operate eight suburban outlets, including Gimhae, Dongbusan, Paju, Icheon, Giheung, Uiwang, Asiapolis, and Buyeo, on January 29, Lunar New Year’s Day.
Hyundai Premium Outlets in Gimpo, Songdo, Space One, and Daejeon will also remain open, while Hyundai’s urban outlets, such as Gasan, Dongdaemun, Garden Five, and Daegu, will close for the day.
Shinsegae’s five suburban outlets—Yeoju, Paju, Busan, Siheung, and Jeju—will also operate on Lunar New Year’s Day.
Business hours for all three companies are from noon to 9 p.m., with individual brands deciding whether to open.
This marks the first time Lotte and Hyundai outlet stores will operate on Lunar New Year, reflecting the longer holiday and a growing trend of young people opting for leisure activities over traditional home visits.
The decision follows a precedent set during Chuseok last year, when suburban stores by Lotte and Shinsegae operated on the holiday for the first time since their opening in 2008 and 2007, respectively, drawing significant attention from the retail industry.
