The health of Busan citizens is the worst in the country, according to the sixth “Busan Local Health Care Plan,” a study conducted by the Busan Social Welfare Development Institute.
The life expectancy of Busan citizens was 80.22 years, lower than 82.67 years of citizens living in Seoul. It is also the second lowest after Ulsan among the 7 metropolitan cities.
The age-standardized mortality rate based on the 2013 figures was 401 people per 100 thousand, much higher than the national average of 372 people.
Heart disease mortality rate was 50.6 people per 100 thousand, which is 1.5 times higher than the national average. Hypertensive disease mortality was 9.8 people, also higher than the national average of 5.9 people.
