Busan City and the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) have announced the final selection of the winning design for the planned Royal Russell School Busan Campus, a key component of the city’s efforts to establish itself as a global education hub.
The winning proposal, titled “Royal Russell Heritage Design Plan”, was submitted by a consortium led by Gangnam Comprehensive Architectural Firm, in collaboration with Espas Architecture and SIOPI Architecture.
The design was selected through a competitive process involving five top domestic architecture teams and was reviewed by a panel of external experts.
The Royal Russell School, a prestigious private institution based in the United Kingdom, will operate the campus, which is being developed as part of Busan’s broader promise to attract international educational institutions and enhance global competitiveness.
The proposed campus will span five above-ground floors and one underground level, with a total floor area of approximately 18,936 square meters.
It will accommodate up to 1,350 students from elementary through middle school and include modern facilities such as a swimming pool and a multipurpose auditorium.
Design work is expected to be completed by the first half of 2026, with construction commencing in the latter half of the year.
The school is scheduled to open in August 2028.
To support the initiative, Busan City has formed a dedicated task force with the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority, LH, the City Board of Education, and the Royal Russell School Promotion Team to ensure smooth coordination across all agencies.
