The ambitious ‘Nakdong Sunset Hwamyeong Eco Park’ project, which includes a rare floating theater on the Nakdong River, has received final approval from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, paving the way for a unique cultural and ecological space in Busan’s Buk-gu district.
Planned for completion by 2028, the project will transform approximately 30,000 square meters of Hwamyeong Ecological Park into a multi-use cultural complex.
The highlight of the project is a floating theater — a distinctive venue that will offer media art, music performances, and outdoor movie screenings on a large screen installed directly on the Nakdong River.
Other features include a family playground and camping zone, which will provide nature-based play areas, picnic spots, and ecological experiences designed to blend leisure and culture with the natural environment.
The project, budgeted at 34.6 billion won, will be jointly funded by national and local governments, each covering 50% of the cost.
It forms part of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s Southern Region Wide-area Tourism Development Plan announced in 2022, aiming to boost cultural tourism in key regional hubs.
