Hadong-gun announced the expansion of rural bus services from Duyang in Okjong-myeon to Changchon Intersection in Danseong-myeon, Sancheong-gun.
This initiative aims to alleviate the inconvenience faced by residents who rely on Wonji Terminal for travel to Daejeon and Seoul due to limited public transportation options.
Since March, Hadong-gun has been collaborating with passenger transport companies and Sancheong-gun officials to address this issue.
After four rounds of consultations, it was decided to extend the existing Okjong to Duyang bus route, which currently operates three times daily, to reach Changchon Intersection in Sancheong-gun.
As a result, residents of Okjong-myeon, previously underserved in terms of transportation, will now have improved access to Wonji Terminal. They can utilize Sancheong-gun rural buses, which run five times a day, along with 16 intercity buses from Changchon Intersection, providing easier connections to Daejeon and Seoul.
In addition to expanding bus services, Hadong-gun reorganized its routes in March, increasing the number of rural bus routes from 46 to 57 and daily operations from 149 to 158.
This reorganization addressed various transportation issues, including student transport during school hours, better connectivity with intercity buses, and improvements in the rural transportation model. It also enhanced the working conditions for bus drivers.
Hadong-gun also introduced a 100-won bus fare for all residents in July, a first in the province.
This initiative has led to a rise in bus usage among both tourists and residents, especially during the holiday season, sparking interest and curiosity among first-time visitors to the region.
