Public trial operations of the new eco-friendly Han River Bus will take place on July 1, ahead of its full launch in September.
From June 24, citizens and tourists can apply to join the “Early Bird” program and experience the water-based public transit system for free.
The Han River Bus is designed as a green alternative to land-based transportation, connecting seven major docks along a 31.5-kilometer route: Magok, Mangwon, Yeouido, Oksu, Apgujeong, Ttukseom, and Jamsil. Express services between Magok, Yeouido, and Jamsil will also be available.
Since its unveiling in November 2023 in Sacheon, the vessel has passed all safety and performance tests, including accident response drills. The city aims to boost both urban mobility and tourism competitiveness through this initiative.
Applications open at 10 a.m. on June 24 via hangangbus.govent.kr, and are open to both Seoul residents and domestic or international tourists.
Trial rides will run until August 23, every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. On weekdays, two round-trips will run between Yeouido and Jamsil at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., while a single 2 p.m. Saturday trip will be offered.
Participants can enjoy events at boarding docks, photo zones, and live busking performances. Those who share their experience on social media with designated tags, including @hangang_bus on Instagram, will be entered into a prize draw.
In case of severe weather or flooding, cancellations will be notified at least four hours in advance.
