The Hanseong Baekje Museum concluded its special international exhibition, “Hittites: The Mightiest Empire of the Orient”, on a high note, attracting over 160,000 visitors from March to June, the highest attendance among all of the museum’s exhibitions in the past three years.
Organized in collaboration with the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Çorum City, Gimhae City, and the Gimhae National Museum, the exhibition featured 212 rare artifacts from the ancient Hittite Empire. These treasures, borrowed from museums in Boğazkale, Alacahöyük, and Çorum, were introduced in Korea for the first time.
The exhibition received widespread praise from visitors, who described it as a rare and fascinating look into ancient Hittite civilization. Many highlighted the experience-based elements, such as the ability to view and stamp ancient hieroglyphs, as memorable highlights.
The museum also ran a range of educational programs, including evening guided tours and children’s workshops like “Hello, I’m from the Hittite World”. An international academic symposium featuring experts from Germany, Turkey, and Korea took place on april 18, deepening scholarly discussion on Hittite and Baekje history.
Following the exhibition’s close, all artifacts were safely returned to Turkey with the cooperation of the Korean National Police, departing from Incheon International Airport on june 15 and arriving at their home institutions.
