Seo-gu District officially reopened the Songdo Coastal Trail, marking the end of a five-year closure due to extensive storm-related damage.
Originally linking Songdo Beach and Amnam Park, the 817-meter trail suffered severe damage during a rockfall triggered by heavy rains in May 2020, followed by further destruction from typhoons and additional rainfall throughout the summer of that year. These events caused the collapse of forest slopes, damage to suspension bridges, and loss of access routes, prompting a full closure for public safety.
The restoration project focused on a 340-meter damaged section and cost approximately 1.3 billion won.
Work included slope stabilization, the reinstallation of two suspension bridges, five rest benches, new stairs, railings, and reinforced rockfall prevention measures.
While planning began early, the timeline was extended due to challenges securing land access from private owners and further delays caused by subsequent natural disasters, including Typhoon Hinnamno.
For now, the trail will operate with limited hours from April to September, open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (last entry at 4 p.m.), before transitioning to full-day access starting in October. Additional safety-related construction is still ongoing.
The Songdo Coastal Trail forms part of Section 1 of the 4th course of the Busan Galmaet-gil Trail and is a designated area within the National Geopark.
It offers panoramic views of the sea and mountain forest, as well as geological features like sedimentary rock formations dating back 100 million years, making it a unique natural and cultural destination in Busan’s western district.
